Sunday February 8, 2009/HAVE YOU HEARD

HAVE YOU HEARD

Is. 40:27 Why would you ever complain, O Jacob,

or, whine, Israel, saying,

“GOD has lost track of me.

He doesn’t care what happens to me”?

Is. 40:28 Don’t you know anything? Haven’t you been listening?

GOD doesn’t come and go. God lasts.

He’s Creator of all you can see or imagine.

He doesn’t get tired out, doesn’t pause to catch his breath.

And he knows everything, inside and out.

Is. 40:29 He energizes those who get tired,

gives fresh strength to dropouts.

Is. 40:30 For even young people tire and drop out,

young folk in their prime stumble and fall.

Is. 40:31 But those who wait upon GOD get fresh strength.

They spread their wings and soar like eagles,

They run and don’t get tired,

they walk and don’t lag behind.

1. God knows you troubles.

2. God can energizes the weak and tired.

3. God strengthens those who wait with hope.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - in DC

The Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday was a marvelous Monday in Washington DC.  Like many I was getting ready for Tuesday's  historic moment  when President Elect Barack Obama would take the oath of office.

However, I did attended the  "Let Freedom Ring Celebration"  Monday evening  at the Kennedy Center which began with an elegant reception.  The annual program is a partnership between the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Georgetown University.  During the affair Coach John Thompson, Jr. Legacy of a Dream award was given to Marion Wright Edelman.

She is the  founder and president of the Children's Defense Fund.  While a student at Bishop College I heard hear speak on a number of occasions. Mrs. Edelman's brother Dr. Harry S. Wright was president of the college at the time.  She has done amazing work on behalf of children and the poor.

The entertainment for the program was the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin and she sang us all happy.  She really is deserving of just such a title.  One of  the wonderful things Ms. Franklin did that evening was talk about those times when Dr. King stayed at there home and this added to the occasion.
