The Benefit of the Holy Spirit

ACTS 2:1-11.; 1: 1-8

The Benefits of the Holy Spirit or Notes on the Holy Spirit (Part 1)

Jesus told the disciples to go to Jerusalem and wait until they received the Holy Spirit. He also said that they would receive the power to witness an they would began at home and then go abroad. The power to witness would come through the Holy Spirit along with the support of being led and guided by that same Spirit.

Because the Holy Spirit is a helper He would not just prepare the disciples for the future but also direct them within their purpose. Now the beauty of the Holy Spirit is that He provides the same benefits to all believers.

1. Jesus kept his promise and sent the Holy Spirit.
2. The Holy Spirit provides the power to witness.
3. The Holy Spirit provides the benefit of transformation.

Conclusion: Thanks be to God, that the promise of Jesus was kept; an because of that promise we have been granted the power to witness and live transformed lives.

Sunday May 13, 2007/GOD SEE'S ME

GOD SEE'S ME

Genesis 16.13; 21. 14-20

The characters in this story are Abraham, Sarai, Hagar, Ishmel and Isaac Now in this narrative God made a promise to Abraham and Sarai that they would have a son. This promise seemed to big for God in the eyes of Abraham and Sarai so they decided to take matters into their own hands. Sometimes the promises of God seems to good to be true, and like Abraham, we want to take matters into our own hands.

Many times when reading the Bible we might think that God can not mean all of those things He says; but God does mean what He says. However, within this story there is another story about Hagar and Ishmel. It is this narrative that shows us that God sees us in every situation and we can put our trust in him.

1. God recognizes our condition.
2. God has a plan for our life.
3. God opens our eyes so that we can see the provision that He has provided.

15 Years of ministry

15 years of ministry at the Shiloh Baptist Church

The several days of worship blessed me and exhausted me as well, therefore I am a bit slow in getting the weekly posting out. This Sunday was an Anniversary Celebration of 15 years of service at the Shiloh Church; it was a marvelous occasion. I thank all of the members and friends for the many acts of kindness shown to me. The pastors who shared the Word of God preached with power and conviction. I was blessed and challenged by the preaching of the gospel. Also, all of the music shared was tremendous and spirit filled. I am also thankful for the presence of my mother during this celebration.

Daniel 3. 8 - 18

The Three Hebrew Boys

The story of Shadrack, Meshach, and Abed-nego known as the three Hebrew Boys has always been a favorite narrative of mine.

Even as a child I remember preachers preaching from this text of scripture. As I got older, I started to get a better understanding of what the whole story was really all about.

This story is literally about what it means to have ones faith and principles challenged. These men would not break the commandments which stated that they would have known other gods or bow to an image of a god (Ex. 20.5).

But they would only worship the true and living God. Now there are times in life when we are pushed to compromise our faith and principles. The lessons of the elders helped Shadrack, Meshach, and Abed-nego and those same lessons can help us today.

1. The lesson of the elders taught them to whom they would worship (v.12).
2. The lesson of the elders taught them how to stand the test of compromise (vv. 13-15).
3. The lesson of the elders taught them to have faith in God in the midst of the fire (vv. 16-18;

Concl. God provided assurance in the midst of the fire of life.

How to Bring People to Jesus

I have taken some major thoughts about this periscope from my dear friend Dr. Michael P. Williams of Joy Baptist Tabernacle. The story of the men that brought the paralyzed man to Jesus is an exciting lesson of how we can bring people to Jesus as well. The men that brought the paralyzed to Jesus had some attributes that all believers must possess if they desire to bring people to Jesus.

So what are the attributes one must have to bring people to Jesus?

1. To bring someone to Jesus you must have compassion (v. 2,3).

2. To bring someone to Jesus you must be committed to the cause (v. 4a).

3. To bring someone to Jesus you must concentrate on the mission (4b, 5).

Let’s bring people to Jesus.
