On Sunday as a church family we started our 40 days of purpose campaign. The goal of this sermon was not only to share the message of Jesus Christ but to encourage participation in this church wide study. The major points of this sermon were taken from the book: Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.

Starting with God

How can we discover our purpose????

1. We discover our purpose when we have a relationship with Jesus.

2. We discover our purpose when it is understood that God thought about us before we thought about him.

3. We discover our purpose when we understand that life's purpose fits into Gods cosmic purpose and it is eternal.

Limited Resources + Increasing Passion = Exponential Innovation

Using what you have to reach others for Jesus. Peter said: Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk (Acts 3. 6).

I just finished listening to the message of Craig Groeschel while I took my evening walk. When I wrote the notes of the earlier post I had only read the review of Tony Morgan. I have been even more impacted by listening to the message. The audio from the Buzz conference is available for a free download. This is a wonderful fresh perspective.

NOTES ABOUT CRAIG GROESCHEL

Tony Morgan is one of my favorite bloggers I appreciate his thought on church leadership and ministry innovation. He brings a wealth of experience and usable tools for ministry. Tony speaks about a message given by Craig Groeschel at the Buzz conference.

I have been moved by the major point of this message: 4 characteristics of an innovative leader. This message speaks to those things that ministry leaders ought to be doing and some of my thoughts about this message.

1. They heal the sick. This kind of ministry looks very different from what we might see today, because it meets people where they live. This kind of ministry asks the question: "Who is God calling you to reach that no one around is reaching?" This is a powerful question that all who do ministry must try to answer if we are serious about ministry.

2. They break rules. God has a purpose for everyone and just as Jesus healed on the Sabbath day. Reaching people in the name of Jesus the Christ may mean breaking rules going outside of what might be termed as conventional. What is God calling U to do that has not been done before?

3. They offend Pharisees. Hated today and embraced tomorrow. Learning how not to shoot back at those who may attack is one of the most Christ like things that one can do and maybe the most difficult. How many times have we all wanted to push back and that is where the Holy Spirit must take control. What new thing is God trying to do through U?

4. They redefine success. Less of me and more of God. Success becomes more then just numbers but getting people to impact the world. JN. 3.30

From these simple statements I know like many others that the greatest work in ministry is waiting to be done. Once again just my thoughts.

MEMORIES OF THE 4TH OF JULY

I remember going over my Uncle Dave and Aunt Ruth's home for the annual 4th of July family Bar-B Q when I was a kid back in Seattle, Washington.

The menu was usually ribs, chicken, hot links, and of course, burgers and hot-dogs for the kids. I can't forget that really good potato salad, ice cold water melon and homemade ice cream.

I have fond memories of those days. I will never forget the music that Uncle Dave would play on his record player mostly 45's of Bobby Blue Bland, James Brown, BB King, Aretha Franklin, Little Milton, Sam & Dave, JR. Walker, Rufus Thomas, and the Temptation to name a few. I would sit in the yard and just listen to the music coming from an additional speaker outside the house.

As a youngster I don't really remember what I enjoyed the most the music or the food both left a wonderful impression upon me. I am thankful that I still have great memories of spending the 4th of July with family.

THE MAN AT THE GATE

Today people have all kinds of things happening in their lives and what many need is more than money can buy. Peter and John show what can be offered to those that our down and need to be lifted up in the name of Jesus. The actions of Peter and John can serve as an example of how to share with others who may be in need.

1. They offered their testimony.

2. The offered their right hand which was their best.

3. The they lifted the lame man in the name of Jesus.
